The drone maker DJI has harbinger it is dropping theautomatic restrictionsthat prevent owners from fly in sensitive areas .
The society has announced it is shifting its policies to match those in the European Union and the UK , where there ’s a reliance on personal province to govern what ’s appropriate .
Until now , the company has mechanically restricted flights in sealed zones like around military edifice , airports and prisons , via the comrade app .
It mean now , in theory , drone pilot could vaporize over the White House or the Capitol building during the presidential inauguration on Monday . Although that ’s belike inadvisable if you want your drone to be in working order after the event .

“ With this update , DJI ’s Fly and Pilot flight of stairs app operators will see prior DJI geofencing datasets replace to display prescribed Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) data , ” the company wrote .
“ Areas previously defined as Restricted Zones ( also known as No - Fly Zones ) will be exhibit as Enhanced Warning Zones , aligning with the FAA ’s designated areas . In these zones , in - app alerts will send word operator flying near FAA designated controlled airspace , point ascendency back in the hand of the bourdon manipulator , in line with regulatory principles of the operator bearing concluding province . ”
Previously , Restricted Zones have been identifiable by red shaded areas on the map , but it ’ll no longer be expressly prohibited to pilot trailer in these areas without authorisation .
