Farmer Birthday Cake (easy to make)
We all have a go at it celebrating birthdays at our small homestead . There ’s nothing more gleeful than gathering with phratry and friends to mark another year spent surrounded by nature ’s bounty .
This year , I wanted to create a birthday patty that really captured the spirit of our farm – one that would remind us all of the peach we encounter in unproblematic things . So I mark about design a bar top off with an edible farm scene that would be as delicious as it was delightful . Here is how I made my Homestead Birthday Cake .
The Cake
I started by mixing up a classical vanilla patty formula using ingredient from our farm . In spot of white sugar , I sweeten the batter with love harvested from our beehives . novel eggs from the chicken and a splash of Milk River from our Jersey moo-cow append supererogatory good .
I sifted together the dry ingredients – flour mill about from wheat originate in our field and a pinch of salt reap through evaporation from our pond . Finally , I whisked in vanilla extract from beans grow on a neighboring farm . The sweet perfume of the hitter was intoxicating !
I divide the fluffy hitter between two greased cake pans and shine the tops . Then into a 350 stage oven they went . About 30 minutes later , I tested for doneness with a toothpick and was entranced when it go forth unobjectionable .
It ’s so comforting to make something as simple yet special as a bar using only what ’s leave by the land around you . The level cooled as I got to form on the frosting and palm .
Farm Frosting
For the ice , I whipped together refreshing cream , dear , and a mite of vanilla extract . The cream came from our dairy moo-cow ’s good afternoon milking .
Spreading the chummy , fresh icing between the layers and all over the top and sides of the bar , I was transported by its ample feeling . It truly tasted like the bounty of our little homestead all in one delicious bite .
Edible Landscapes
Now it was time to transform the icing into a miniature farm landscape . Using a butter tongue , I carved out track and define fields . minuscule leaves harvested from our herbaceous plant garden were pressed into the frosting for hedgerows and windbreaks . raspberry bush , blackberry , and blueberry picked that morning became shrub and trees dotting the landscape painting .
I fashioned chickens , cows , and horses from fondant rolled using our own lard and colored and detail them with natural nutrient dyes . Finally , lilliputian pretzels became fence and grain of Elmer Rice were scattered about like crops in the fields .
When the decorations were complete , I pose back to admire my handiwork . The farm tantrum was perfectly witching and bring a smiling to my face . All the fiddling detail , from the grazing animals to the bountiful berry patches , tell the tale of our homestead in edible form .
I could n’t wait to serve slices and have everyone revel the scenic sweetness . Most of all , I hop this cake would be a reminder of the simple pleasance that do from hold up nigh to the Din Land and celebrating each other . Now let the natal day celebration begin !
